The domain turns into a website
for Cellular products.
The same happened
to most other city names,
they were registered for all kind of brands
before Tourism Marketing became popular.

Highly valuable at the turn of the century
pure geo domains
were replaced by visit+geodomains
used by many official DMOs today.
2005 First Registration of the domain
VisitCelle.com
by the
Windheim domain portfolio
from Akershus / Norway.
The domain investor was visionary
and
since 2003 he started to collect
hundreds of Visit+destinations.com
domains.
Instead of providing relevant content
or giving the possibility
to aquire the domains,
VisitCelle.com
and hundreds of other Visit Domains
were part of a "Spam Linkfarm"
with messy, irrelevant
information
polluting the web.
All over Europe
the Vindheim Portfolio
blocked the development of
Tourist Information.
Hundreds of tourist boards
could not get their matching
"visit domains".
The Vindheim portfolio
also including thousands
of "trash domains"
with poor names
like visit2germany.com
or less popular TLDs
like .biz or .tv
At it's peak the portfolio
reached around 13.000 domains.
2006 Launch of new gTLDs
like
.travel
followed by .tours .vacations,
.voyage or .reise
with the idea to challenge
.com
for tourist websites.

Registration of Celle.travel
The new tourist related gTLDs
are very expensive to renew
and did not age well.
Two decades later 90% of .travel domains
were not renewed
or they are now redirected
to .com or national ccTLDs
like .de
2010 Celle
followed a global phenomenon:
Lauch of a seperate professional
Tourism website outside
the administrative city portal.
The "German Branding"
celle-tourismus.de
with a hyphen
is choosen
for the internet adress.
2011 Berlin becomes a Pioneer
in Tourism marketing in Germany
Following the example
of other major international cities
the domain VisitBerlin.com registered 2001
is aquired for 230.000 USD.
2013 Registration
of celle-tourismus.com

redirected to the .de site
2017 - 2018
Under the burdon
of higher and higher renewal charges
the Vindheim portfolio collapsed
and most of the valuable
visit
domains start to lapse.
A few tech savvy Tourist Boards
follow the phenomenon.
They
were able to re-register
a matching "visit domain"
they had not been able
to get for years
right after the domain
had become available again.
2018 VisitCelle.com becomes available
