Europe is the western portion of the Eurasian landmass, extending from the Atlantic seaboard east to the Ural Mountains in Russia.
Small in area but densely settled, the continent contains dozens of countries and a mosaic of languages, from the Arctic north to the Mediterranean. Its landscapes run from Norwegian fjords and the Alps to Iberian coastlines and the Greek islands. Most trips centre on historic capitals such as Paris, Rome, London and Vienna, connected by extensive rail networks.
