Iceland is a volcanic island nation in the North Atlantic, lying just south of the Arctic Circle between Greenland and Norway.
Straddling the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, the island combines active volcanic systems with ice caps such as Vatnajökull, along with waterfalls, lava fields and geothermal springs. Most trips start in Reykjavík and take in the Golden Circle, with Þingvellir National Park, the Geysir area and Gullfoss, or follow the Ring Road round the coast.
