A country covering most of the Iberian Peninsula in south-western Europe, with coasts on both the Atlantic and the Mediterranean.
Spain shares land borders with Portugal, France and Andorra, and, in North Africa, with Morocco at the enclaves of Ceuta and Melilla; it also governs the Balearic and Canary Islands. Its regions vary widely in language, cooking and landscape, from the green Basque north to arid Andalusia. Visitors come for the Prado in Madrid, Gaudí's buildings in Barcelona, the Alhambra in Granada and the pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela.
