Dublin is the capital of Ireland, set on the island's east coast where the River Liffey flows into Dublin Bay.
Founded as a Viking settlement and later laid out with Georgian squares and red-brick terraces, the city is bound up with writers including Joyce, Yeats and Beckett. The main sights are the Book of Kells at Trinity College, Dublin Castle, St Patrick's Cathedral, the National Museum of Ireland and the Guinness Storehouse at St James's Gate.
