Egypt occupies the northeast corner of Africa, with the Sinai Peninsula reaching into Asia and the Nile running its full length.
Almost the entire population lives along the Nile and its delta, with desert to either side and coasts on the Mediterranean and Red Sea. Travellers come for pharaonic monuments – the Giza pyramids and Sphinx outside Cairo, Karnak and the Valley of the Kings at Luxor, Abu Simbel in the far south – and for the Grand Egyptian Museum, which opened at Giza in 2025.
