The Himalaya is Asia's great mountain arc, curving for some 2,400 km across India, Nepal, Bhutan, Tibet and Pakistan.
Running between the Indus and Brahmaputra rivers, the range separates the Indian subcontinent from the Tibetan Plateau and holds the highest peaks on Earth, among them Mount Everest and Kangchenjunga. Visitors come to trek routes such as the Everest Base Camp and Annapurna circuits, and to see Buddhist monasteries and hill towns.
