Sweden's capital, spread across islands where Lake Mälaren meets the Baltic Sea at the edge of a large archipelago.
Stockholm is built on a cluster of islands joined by bridges on Sweden's east coast. Gamla Stan, the medieval old town, contains the Royal Palace and narrow lanes, while the island of Djurgården gathers museums including the Vasa Museum, built around a salvaged seventeenth-century warship. Ferries serve the surrounding archipelago.
