Situation in Germany
In Germany the phenomenon strated late
2007 / 2011 the Berlin Tourismus und Congress Gmbh
rebranded fro Berlin-Tourist-Information.de to Visit Berlin.com.
owning both a .com and a .de version of the domain.
A fan of the beautiful Bavarian town Bamberg followed with Visit Bamberg.com
powered by the famous ad agency Markenwirt.
The official Tourist Promotion Agencies of Duesseldorf and Frankfurt follwed in 2025
but they still do not own the .com version.
Frankfurt does not even have .de which is not very pro for a major city.
Even though .de is popular in Germany
most International people onlly recognize .com
Also .de (shortcut for Deutschland instead of Germany)
is more difficult to understand
than a
.fr for France or .it for Italy.
Sadly many Germany towns do not even have a proper website dedicated for Tourism,
there are even cities with Tourist Information only available in German.
The Global Visit List now features over 25 German desitnations with a Visit prefixed domain
out of 1050 for globally (status September 2025).
The List was created to encourage people to make beautiful Tousits Information sites.
