Dubai is the most populous city in the United Arab Emirates, built along the Persian Gulf coast around the Dubai Creek inlet.
Capital of the emirate of the same name, Dubai grew from a pearling and trading port into a centre of high-rise architecture and commerce. Sightseeing revolves around the Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world, the Dubai Mall and the artificial Palm Jumeirah, offset by the wind-tower houses of Al Fahidi and the gold and spice souks by the Creek.
