Australia is a country that covers an entire continent in the Southern Hemisphere, between the Indian and Pacific Oceans.
Most Australians live along the eastern and southern coasts, while the arid interior known as the Outback is thinly populated. The country is noted for marsupial wildlife found nowhere else and for Aboriginal cultures stretching back tens of thousands of years. Travellers head for Sydney Harbour and its Opera House, the Great Barrier Reef off Queensland, and Uluru in the Red Centre.
