Brussels is Belgium's bilingual capital and the main base of the European Union's institutions, in the centre of the country.
The Brussels-Capital Region is officially French- and Dutch-speaking, and hosts the European Commission and Council as well as NATO headquarters. Its centrepiece is the Grand-Place, a UNESCO-listed square ringed by guild houses, while the Atomium north of the centre survives from the 1958 World's Fair. Art Nouveau architecture, comics and chocolate round out a visit.
