France's capital on the River Seine, a long-established centre of art, fashion and food laid out around grand boulevards.
Paris lies on the Seine in northern France, divided into 20 arrondissements that spiral clockwise outwards from the 1st, centred on the Louvre on the Right Bank. Its best-known landmarks are the Eiffel Tower, Notre-Dame cathedral and the Arc de Triomphe, while the Louvre and the Musée d'Orsay hold major art collections. Montmartre and the Latin Quarter are popular for walking.
