launches a website
with the internet domain

1998 The domain Zuerich.com
is aquired by IEF Internet Engineering Frei
another Swiss Internet company.

2001 Launch of .info
a new gTLD designed for companies
that had missed .com

.info domains were fashionable
for a short moment
The Tourism website was
briefly called Zuerich.info
But soon the .info fashion waved.

understands that
it is important to get a .com

Aquisition of the domain

by Zuerich Turismus from from IEF
The amount of the transaction
was not published.

At that time
Zurich.com was no longer available
already owned
by the "Insurance Company Zurich".

Pure Geo domains were highly valuated
around the turn of the century.
Sometimes they were so expensive
and so difficult to get
Tourist Boards like Monaco
or London
tried to find an alternative.
The solution was to add "Visit".

"Vist" was already used by
Visit California.com
and other US Destinations
in the areas where Internet was born.
Soon other Anglo American
or Scandinavian Destinations followed.



The glamour of
Visit Monaco.com
still rooting in the
charisma of Grace Kelly,
Princess of Monaco
or Visit London.com
was so strong
more and more Tourist Sites
all around the globe
wanted to get a "Visit Geo Domain".

But this was not the case
in Switzerland
where "visit domains"
remained an exception.


2002 Launch of Zuerich.com,
the new Tourism website
Zuerich.com
is replacing
ZurichTourism.ch
and Zurich.info

2007 Registration of the domain
VisitZuerich.com 11-05-2007
under the inspiration
of the artist
Stephanie von Fuerstenberg.

For a decade
VisitZuerich.com is redirected to
PhoneBookoftheWorld.com/zurich



2008 Registration of the domain

The domain is soon activated by
Brunella Jorio and Heidi Metzner
to promote
their sucessfull
Zuerich Tour Guide Organisation.

In same way the two Ladies are the
pioneers of "Visit" in Switzerland.

starts to adopt "Visit"
for social media
and opens an instagram account
@visitzurich

2017 Phone Book of the World
impacted by never ending
construction works
loses the domain "VisitZuerich.com"

whipes through Switzerland.

Marcus Cent,
the editor of VisitRome.com
had collected 3 Swiss Visit domains.
The domains had been inactive
for several years.

VisitLucerne.com
turns it into a beautiful Swiss website

The same happened to
VisitMontreux.com
and VisitZug.com
effective 28-04-2026

During the same time,
spring 2026 more sleeping
visit domains come alive
in other German speaking
regions with moderate use
of the "visit phenomenon"
Germany and Austria.

Following this wave
VisitZuerich.com
is activated 25-05-2026

"Visit" starts to find
it's place in Switzerland
following a global trend
where "Visit+city.com"
has become the most
prominent domain format.

The question is
what wil happen to
VisitSwitzerland.com
an extremely valuable domain,
currently half asleep
and only used in a redirection mode.
